Visit to the US: Mentors

Proverbs 27:17 Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.

When I was in high school, I met a teacher who was a fellow believer.  She was an incredibly strong woman of faith who mentored me through the crazy years of high school, the challenges of living far from home in college, engagement, marriage and children.  My mentor and friend, Angela, tells it like it is.  Her honesty and prayers have helped mold my faith and walk.  I am extremely thankful for the opportunity to visit with her for just a few short hours in Winston-Salem last week.  Every time we get together, it's a gift.

Psalm 145:4:  One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your might acts.

So as an opportunity to pass on some of the wisdom Angela gave me, I had the blessing of being a mentor to a young girl named Kimberly many years ago.  We had a blast getting to know one another, praying together and having tons of fellowship time.  She is a precious young girl who understood I was a mom to a bunch of kids and sometimes we would just meet in the parking lot of dance or she would tag along when I went grocery shopping.  Kimberly was a terrific teenager who babysat our kids, came to our family birthdays and holiday get-togethers.   This past year, Kimberly graduated from college and now teaches in Charlotte.  She will likely become the next mentor to a young girl.  Last week, she also came to visit us in Winston-Salem and we had the privilege of spending some time together.  I am so proud of the young lady she has become and I look forward to seeing what the Lord has planned for her!

Visit to the US: Simon Family

Proverbs 18:24 A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

What a gift it was to spend two nights in Tennessee with our wonderful friends, Jeff, Denise, Sarah, Emily and Katie.  We have known the Simon family for many years.  Susie and Denise have been friends from preschool right on through college.  Jack and Jeff  met during their first year of college.  First came love...then weddings and births and lots of moves for both couples.  We are so thankful for their long lasting friendship, no matter how far the distance becomes.

Thank you Simon family for supporting us.  We love you!

Visit to the US: Bible Baptist

We love our Bible Baptist family!  We are so thankful to have the opportunity to speak about the IDC ministry and share what the Lord is doing in Guatemala.  It was a wonderful blessing to spend time in fellowship at the luncheon after the service.

Thank you, Bible Baptist of Wilmington for your support, encouragement and prayers over the past 18 months.

Visit to the US: Jack's Family

We've had such a busy couple of weeks so far!  We have traveled across North Carolina to visit Jack's mom, brother, grandmother, father and grandfather.  In that order!

Jack and his brother, Andy

Beautiful weather in Wilmington, NC!  Great day at the park with Grandma Karen.

This is our family with Jack's Father and Grandmother, who we haven't seen in 7 years because she's been living in Alaska.  We had such a lovely visit in Franklin, NC and wish we could have spent more time with them.

Jack's brother, Andy, Jack and Grandpa Bert.  We are so grateful to be back and able to visit with family.

It's cold now!

The next two weeks are jam packed with visits to friends and family, as well as more church visits. We are enjoying every minute!  If you would like to get together, please send us a message at townsendguat@gmail.com.

Visit to the US: Susie's Family

We had a wonderful Christmas with Susie's family!  Her brother and sister and their families all came to spend the holiday together.  19 people in one house!  We had a blast!

Our oldest, Sophie, tells us she misses family the most when living in Guatemala.  This was a very special Christmas for her.

Jude is happy because he received a "real tool kit like daddy's" for Christmas!  He's ready to help around the house!

Joseph loves his Mozart Music Toy.  It's the second one he has had because he uses it so much!

Pearl will bring many books back in her suitcase!

Annabelle enjoyed riding bikes with her cousins all week long!
